RYAN RIDER BOOK REVIEW : COUNTDOWN TO LOCKDOWN- A HARDCORE JOURNAL BY MICK FOLEY
Reviewed by Ryan Rider of MainEventRadio.com Mrs. Foley’s little boy has done it yet again. Officially passing Winston Churchill’s record for most biographies written about one individual, Mick Foley’s latest book may as well be his best. Countdown to Lockdown is a “hardcore journal” following the successful wrestling champion and #1 New York Times Bestseller as he prepares for one of the biggest matches of his career – one last shot at the World Heavyweight Championship against a longtime rival, Steve “Sting” Borden. Much like his other three books, Mick is extremely down to earth and honest in his storytelling, talking about a wide variety of topics throughout the autobiography. The focus is on his comeback to action in an upstart company, Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling. But in between is where the real meat is: From his fall-out with former boss Vince McMahon, the use of steroids in the sport of professional wrestling, his failed attempt at a broadcasting career, and the double murder-suicide committed by his former friend Chris Benoit; the book ends up being a quick and entertaining read. Foley starts off the book by comparing himself to Indiana Jones, a hero whose latest adventure was long-awaited and the main character is older but still capable of telling a good story. “I’ve always considered the inside of the surreal world of professional wrestling to be at least as entertaining as what our fans see on their television screens,” stated Foley. “And I know that when I was a fan, I would have loved to have been given this access, to see what really goes on behind the scenes. Consider this book to be like a six-week backstage pass – the best possible place to view the cavalcade of curious characters who make up the world of professional wrestling.” It all leads to the culmination of his comeback, and whether or not he will make it to the main event of “Lockdown” in proper physical shape to compete and take home the gold one more time. To be commended is the fact that Mick Foley has donated 100% of the advance for this book to two organizations: RAINN and the Child Fund International. There may have been a little bit too many details about Tory Amos, but overall I definitely recommend picking up this book, and here’s hoping for a fifth part sometime in the future. Mick’s career is, despite countless setbacks, still not over yet. Countdown To Lockdown : A Hardcore Journal is now available online and in stores everywhere with a suggested retail price of $26.99/$29.99 in Canada.
