ROCKO'S RANDOMNESS - HURRICANE HELMS NEEDS STRAIGHT EDGE IN HIS LIFE

The past 24 hours has been a rough one for Chris Jericho and Hurricane Helms.  Tuesday night after the Smackdown tapings, Jericho, Helms, Matt Hardy and others headed out to a local Kentucky area bar, and downed a few drinks. The bar shut down at 2:30am and sometime between then and 4am, Helms turned into a bit of an angry drunk, allegedly ended up in some sort of altercation in a Taxi and when the Taxi pulled over at a gas station to call the cops, Helms and Matt Hardy ran off while Jericho stayed on the scene, eventually Helms returned and was arrested alongside Jericho for public intoxication. At this point and time the exact details of the incidents are unknown and thus the word allegedly is used, however one thing that is certain is the arrest for public intoxication took place. Matt Hardy who also ran off is not being sought by Kentucky police. Reports indicate that CM Punk and Christian were the ones who bailed Y2J and Helms out. Since then, TMZ and major news outlets across North America have picked up on the story.

Hurricane Helms has a history of problems, most recently he was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with TNA star Christopher Daniels. There is also stories of physical altercations with neighbours and steroid abuse. As it would turn out Helms and Jericho were just a bit too intoxicated and engaged in a play fight in which a equally drunk woman found herself in the line of fire of a elbow. WWE has yet to acknowledge the incident, although Helms was the superstar of the day on WWE.com and when word got around of the incident they quickly replaced him.

The funny thing is CM Punk, the straight edged superstar was one of the men who bailed Helms and Jericho out. You may recall the feud between CM Punk and Jeff Hardy last year during which Punk made light of Hardy’s problematic past and was one of the better feuds of the year. Currently on Smackdown, Punk is forming his straight edged society by shaving people’s heads who accept straight edge into their life. For my tastes it’s the best thing going on Smackdown right now and I think WWE should take this entire arrest mess and use it to their advantage.

Let’s face it, this looks to be much ado about nothing, and chances are nothing will happen to either man beyond paying the fines for being intoxicated in public. In terms of internal punishment, WWE is unlikely to do much more than a verbal reprimand. Jericho is a heel on Smackdown and is too big of a star to take part in the idea that I have.

I’d love if on a future edition of Smackdown, CM Punk calls out Hurricane Helms, lectures him on how he is ruining his life and proceed on with the textbook straight edge promo. As a bit of a punishment from the WWE, Helms has his head shaved by joining the straight edged society, storyline wise though he joins the society reluctantly. The promo would be classic since it plays off of real life. As we know when storylines or angles play off of real life they are usually much better than some of the crap they usually put out. Also by having him reluctantly join the straight edge society it sets up the build up for him to eventually turn on Punk. It would be a great feud, and would eventually close on a positive note for Helms while continuing to put over Punk’s greatness.  Along the way have Punk win the money in the bank again at Mania, that way he has something to do following the feud with Helms.

In conclusion More Punk = Better Ratings (to start 2010 Smackdown's rating is up compared to 2009's horrible 1.9 average), and More Punk = added interest from me towards Smackdown which I haven’t had for the better part of the last 5 years. I have always loved the undertaker, and always will but even some of his stuff has become a bit too straight forward the last few years. Punk and his straight edge promo’s are better than anything on Smackdown right now even Jericho’s textbook heel promos so why not use the added publicity to get it over even more?
